Description
Snail Nassarius
is a large genus of small-to-medium-sized marine sea snails, commonly known as nassa mud snails or zombie snails, widely popular as scavengers in saltwater and reef aquariums. They feature spiral, cone-shaped shells (often patterned in cream, brown, and gray) and grow from 0.25 to 1 inch in size. They possess a long, tube-like siphon that pokes up through the sand like a periscope to smell for food. They spend most of their time buried completely hidden beneath the sand. The moment they sense food (meaty leftovers), they rapidly emerge en masse from the substrate, earning them the nickname “zombie snails”.
