Peaceful Gourami: Honey gourami or a single dwarf gourami add a nice centerpiece fish without threatening the bottom. Otocinclus catfish or small bristlenose pleco (in tanks 20 gallons or larger). Kuhli loach (peaceful, though they require a bit of space and care). Amano shrimp, cherry shrimp, ghost shrimp, nerite snails, and mystery snails. Crucial note: Corydoras melini themselves should ideally be kept in a group (school) of 6 or more of their own kind to feel secure. |
| Avoid Housing With | Aggressive or Large Cichlids: African cichlid, convict cichlid, Oscar, and Jack Dempsey can bully, injure, or swallow small corys. Aggressive Bottom Dwellers: Red-tail sharks, large territorial plecos, or rough-natured loaches will outcompete or push them around. Fin-Nippers: Tiger barbs or serpae tetras are known to nip at the fins and sensitive barbels of bottom-dwelling catfish. Crayfish & Predators: Crayfish can grab slow-moving bottom fish at night, and any fish with a mouth large enough to swallow a cory should be excluded. |

Description
Catfish Corydoras Melini
Peaceful, small-to-mid-size community fish that occupy the middle and upper water columns make the best tank mates for Corydoras melini (Melini Cory or False Bandit Cory). Because Corydoras are gentle, bottom-dwelling schooling fish, they need companions that will not outcompete them for food, nip at their fins, or damage their delicate barbels (whisker-like sensory organs). Melini Cory or False Bandit Cory, is a peaceful, small-growing armored catfish native to the slow-moving inland waters and blackwater streams of the Amazon, Rio Negro, and Orinoco basins in Brazil and Colombia. Best kept in a school of 5 to 8+ individuals to reduce stress and promote natural behavior. Fine, soft sand is essential to protect their sensitive barbels from scraping or injury. Provide shaded areas with driftwood, leaf litter, and live plants like Java fern or Cryptocoryne.
