The Red Lizard Catfish L010A (Rineloricaria sp.) is freshwater-peaceful, twig-like bottom-dweller that grows to about 4 to 4.5 inches long freshwater fish native to South America. Low to moderate water movement; they prefer calm conditions and clean water with low nitrates (< 10 ppm) and zero ammonia. Known for its striking red coloration, this peaceful bottom-dweller is ideal for planted tanks. Fine sand substrate (which they sift through and ingest for digestion), driftwood (essential for fiber and biofilm), and plenty of plant cover, slate caves, or PVC pipes for hiding. It requires soft substrates to protect its barbels and prefers hiding spaces like driftwood or caves.
The Red Lizard Catfish is omnivorous, thriving on algae, wafers, and protein-based foods. Supplement with frozen or live foods like bloodworms, daphnia, or brine shrimp, as they are not purely vegetarian and need protein. They are slow, sedentary feeders; ensure aggressive tankmates do not outcompete them for food. This hardy species is best kept in groups for social interaction. They spawn in horizontal tubes or open-ended caves. The male guards and fans the eggs until they hatch in about 7 to 10 days.
