Warning: This is a dangerous/poisonous animal, also known as the twinspot or ocellated lionfish, is a small, distinctively patterned dwarf lionfish famous for the whisker-like tentacles on its chin that resemble a traditional “Fu Manchu” mustache. The Fu Manchu Lionfish is known to be quite difficult to acclimate and feed initially. Peaceful toward larger fish, but a slow-moving ambush predator. They are strict carnivores. They often need to be started on live saltwater feeder shrimp or ghost shrimp before being slowly trained using feeding tongs to accept frozen, meaty foods like chopped seafood or mysis shrimp. They do not bother corals, but they are opportunistic predators. Any ornamental shrimp, crabs, or tiny fish small enough to fit in their mouths will be eaten. Like other lionfish, the dorsal spines of the Fu Manchu are venomous. A sting delivers a painful reaction similar to a severe bee sting. While they are shy and tend to hide during tank maintenance rather than attack your hands, you must exercise extreme caution to avoid accidental contact.
