CompatibilityGood tank mates for the Blue Phantom Pleco (L128) (Hemiancistrus sp.) are peaceful, non-aggressive species that occupy the mid-water or upper-water columns and do not compete heavily for bottom territory or caves such as Tetras & Rasboras: Small-to-medium schooling fish like Colombian Blue Flame Tetras, ember tetras, or various characins swim in the mid-water and completely ignore bottom-dwelling plecos. Corydoras Catfish: Peaceful bottom-dwellers that generally use different microhabitats and do not bother territorial bottom fish. Dwarf & Small Cichlids: Fish like Apistogramma or electric blue acaras can share similar water parameters (soft, slightly acidic water, pH 6.0–7.0) when given adequate space. Angelfish, pearl gouramis, silver dollars, or Van Heurn’s rainbowfish occupy upper zones, avoiding conflict with the bottom-dwelling L128.
Avoid Housing WithOther Bottom-Dwelling Plecos: Blue Phantom Plecos can become mildly to moderately territorial, especially males guarding caves or breeding sites, making heavy stocking of other bottom-dwelling plecos risky in smaller setups. Aggressive Cichlids or Territorial Bottom Fish: Large, aggressive African cichlids or boisterous bottom-feeders will stress or fight the L128. Incompatible Water Parameters: Avoid species that require hard, alkaline water if you are maintaining the soft, warm (77–86°F) and well-oxygenated riverine environment preferred by Blue Phantoms.

Description

Pleco Blue Phantom L128

The Blue Phantom Pleco L128 (Hemiancistrus sp. L128) a popular freshwater catfish known for its bluish-green body, pale or light-blue spots, and orange or yellow edging on its fins, is a freshwater species native to the fast-flowing rivers of South America.  It thrives in tanks with smooth substrates, driftwood, and hiding spaces. Omnivorous with a strong preference for meaty or protein-rich foods (such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and mysis shrimp) alongside sinking wafers and vegetables. Proper filtration and stable water conditions are essential. They originate from rapid-flowing rivers, so they require strong water movement, good filtration, and high oxygenation (powerheads or air stones are ideal).  They are sensitive to poor water quality and fluctuating parameters; always introduce them to a well-established, fully cycled aquarium. Can be slightly territorial or aggressive toward other bottom-dwellers and plecos unless given adequate space and individual caves.
