Small Bottom Dwellers (with caution on space): Corydoras catfish (such as Pepper Corydoras), provided they have separate feeding areas and do not crowd the pleco's territory. Otocinclus catfish. Peaceful Invertebrates: Amano Shrimp, Neocaridina shrimp. Other Mid-Water Fish: Micro rasboras, Dwarf barbs.
Avoid Housing WithAggressive Bottom Dwellers / Cave Competitors: Other territorial plecos, large cichlids (Oscars, Jack Dempseys), or crayfish that will evict the L129 from its preferred caves. Aggressive or Fast Substrate Vacuums: Large barbs, silver dollars, or fast-swimming danios that outcompete bottom-feeders for sinking pellets and wafers before the pleco can eat. Large / Predatory Fish: Any fish large enough to view a 3-inch L129 pleco as a meal.

Description

Pleco L129 Chocolate Zebra

The Chocolate Zebra Pleco (Hypancistrus sp. L129) is a peaceful freshwater catfish with a stunning striped pattern. Native to fast-flowing rivers in South America, this pleco adds visual interest and functionality to aquariums as a bottom-dweller. Features a maze-like pattern of fine vermiculation or stripes. Colors range from dark chocolate brown to grayish-black, accented with yellow, white, or cream lines. Colors can vary depending on the individual and lighting conditions. Reaches approximately 2.5 to 4 inches (about 6.4 to 10 cm), usually staying under 3 inches in typical home aquariums.

Omnivorous; primarily carnivorous. They need protein-rich, sinking wafers, frozen, or live foods. Note: They are not algae or wood eaters. Provide a tank with sandy substrates, driftwood, and stable water conditions to mimic its natural habitat. Feed it a balanced diet of sinking wafers, live, and frozen foods. Its peaceful nature makes it suitable for community tanks with similarly non-aggressive species.
