Description
Shrimp Peppermint
commonly known as the peppermint shrimp, is a small, peaceful marine crustacean widely prized in the saltwater aquarium hobby for its ability to scavenge detritus and control pest anemones (Aiptasia). Omnivorous scavenger; eats detritus, uneaten fish food, algae, and decaying organic matter. Famous for eating nuisance Aiptasia (glass anemones), though closely related species like Lysmata boggessi are sometimes mixed in and credited with the same pest control. Found among coral reefs and tube sponges, which provide both sustenance and hiding spots. Peaceful toward fish and other non-aggressive invertebrates. They should not be kept with aggressive predators like triggerfish, hawkfish, or lionfish, which will eat them.
