Description
Snail Ring Cowrie
also commonly known as the gold ring cowrie or ring top cowrie, is a widely recognized species of small marine sea snail in the family Cypraeidae. Characterized by its smooth, glossy, egg-shaped white or cream shell encircled by a vibrant yellow-orange ring, it is native to the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. When active, it extends a unique, patterned living mantle that entirely covers and continuously polishes its shell.
In the saltwater aquarium hobby, these snails are highly treasured as an exceptionally peaceful and reef-safe addition to clean-up crews. They are primarily herbivorous algivores that feed heavily on film algae, diatoms, and cyanobacteria on rockwork and aquarium glass. They do not harm macroalgae or corals.
