Description
Crab Mexican Red Leg Hermit
are peaceful, marine cleanup crew members that require a stable saltwater aquarium of at least 10 gallons. They graze on nuisance hair algae, detritus, and leftover fish food. If the tank is very clean, supplement their diet 3 to 5 times a week with dried seaweed (nori), sinking pellets, or tiny meaty pieces of frozen food like mysis shrimp. Peaceful and reef-safe, but avoid housing them with aggressive crabs or larger predatory fish. Provide several empty snail shells of various sizes on the sand bed. They need larger shells as they grow and molt. Because they stay tiny, they are popular additions to nano reef tanks and marine cleanup crews. Their physical size is limited by the snail shells they inhabit. As they grow, they need progressively larger empty shells provided in the tank.
