Description

PJS Tropical Saltwater Triggerfish Niger

also known as the Niger or red-fang triggerfish, is a striking marine fish recognized by its vibrant blue-purple body, lyre-shaped tail, and bright red, needle-sharp teeth. Found across the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Inhabit reef channels, steep outer reef slopes, and drop-offs with strong water currents. They use a unique locking dorsal spine to wedge themselves tightly into rock crevices so strong currents do not sweep them away. Unlike many solitary triggerfish species, they frequently form large schools in open water near reef currents. They can shift their body color between deep purple, blue, and bluish-green depending on their mood, feeding habits, and water quality. They are known to produce a distinct grunting sound.
